Ty Buckman

Thriving Cities Lab Co-Director,
Director and Senior Fellow, Institute for Advanced Studies in Culture
A native of Aberdeen, Washington, Ty has lived in all four US time zones and he holds an MA and PhD in English Renaissance Literature from the University of Virginia. He has been active in civic life everywhere he has lived, especially during his eighteen years as an English professor at Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio. After later serving as Provost of Mary Baldwin University, Ty joined the Advanced Studies in Culture Foundation as Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer in 2021. He lives in Staunton, Virginia with his family and an impossibly happy golden doodle named Scout.
